Too much fun! / Herbal Meds for Anxiety
Have been playing with my new toy -- the "Better Homes & Gardens Home Design Suite 6.0". Waaaay too addictive! I was on my computer ALL day Monday, and ALL day yesterday (even though I swore I wasn't gonna be on there for more than a couple of minutes! LOL). I LOVE creating house plans! So cool to be able to "walk through" them, too! I love this software!
Looking into possibly taking an Herbal med. for my anxiety. I get panic attacks (mild to moderate) every now and then, and I'm getting to the point where I think I need to take something. But, I don't want OTC meds as there is always the possibility that you've got to stay on them for life, and they can be really addicting (so I've heard). With my "addictive" personality, that'd not be a good thing. :-?
So far, the most likely "fixes" for me would be either: "St. John's Wort", "Passionflower", or "5-HTP".
The one thing I wonder, though, is: Will any of these harm me, given that I'm a Hayfever sufferer? I mean, a lot of the herbals are made from flowering plants, and being allergic to pollen doesn't make them sound too "safe". DH brought up a good point, though -- I drink herbal teas, so what's the difference? Hmmm..
I'll be talking to a nutritionist/herbal specialist before I make any final decisions.
If worse comes to worst, I'll ask my doctor about taking ATARAX. It's an anti-anxiety OTC medication, but it's got the added bonus of being an antihistamine! (due to the fact that I've been breaking out in hives for the last 3 weeks, with still no clue as to why, I've been living on "Reactine" for the last week). :o(
